Forget all your troubles and celebrate World Doll Day !
This international event honors all dolls ; age, type or beauty are irrelevant. The doll is honored for its contribution to world culture, from being an educational plaything to its use carrying clandestine messages and sometimes life saving medications across borders. In its wonder, charm, patched and repaired - the doll is universally loved. So in keeping with the intent of World Doll Day, share a doll with a young friend or a friend who is young at heart. Enhancing knowledge of and appreciation for dolls is what doll collecting is really all about. So celebrate your dolls by sharing them. Happy World Doll Day to everyone! Unfortunately our doll show did not pull together for this June. We are looking forward to Spring 2015 as a tentative date.
At our last meeting we voted to hold the Lyman trip on Saturday, September 27, 2014. This trip is open to club members and invited guests.
As part to this educational trip, we plan to allow time for perusing the many fine antique and consignment shops in downtown New London. We will finalize travel and possible luncheon/dinner details at our September 8th meeting. We are working closely with Orange Historical Society preparing for this event at the Case Memorial Library in Orange, CT to be held at the end of June.
Appraisals will be available for a nominal donation of $5.00 per doll to the Orange Historical Society. So bring your family treasure in for an identification and evaluation. A Lecture on Antique dolls will be offered at 11am and 1:30pm. Come see an array of dolls spanning antique German and French to modern artist dolls, miniatures, doll accessories and books. More information will be available next week! |
